Indian Army Day 2024
Today, 76th Army Day will be celebrated in the capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, where a splendid parade will be held in honour of the Indian Army. India observes its Army Day every year on January 15 which is dedicated to remembering the sacrifices of soldiers for the nation. Also, Army Day celebrates the achievements of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa who became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the independent Indian Army the last British-service Chief of General Staff Sir Roy Butcher in 1949.
The Army Day parade took place at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment from 1949 to 2022. The Chief of the Army Staff reviews the marching contingents, who also participate in the Republic Day parade annually.
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) is hosting a magnificent parade in celebration of the 76th Army Day. The Army Day parade has been relocated outside Delhi for the second consecutive year. The parade took place at the parade ground of MEG and Centre in Bangalore last year.
Army Chief General Manoj Pandey extended his greetings on the 76th Army Day. General Manoj Pandey paid homage to the soldiers who has sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation. In his address he conveyed his wishes and felicitations to all ranks of the Indian Army, civilian employees, Veterans and their families. While paying homage to the soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.
This year’s Army Day parade will be special as artificial intelligence will be used to select the ‘Best Marching Contingent.’ Major General Salil Seth mentioned that AI will be used to identify and score the best marching contingent for the first time.
He said, “Drills are performed by all marching contingents but there is a pattern of doing it – by raising your legs and hands to a particular level and performing certain movements with their respective weapons in a specific frame of time. We will capture every movement with the help of a camera and then the AI will be used to rate every movement and provide a score based on that. This will also be supervised by humans. We have done two to three practices.”

Indian Army Day is just not an event, it is the celebration of the spirit the spirit our nation. It’s a day to remember and honour the sacrifices made by our soldiers and a promise to stand by them as they continue to guard the forefront of our country.
