On Saturday Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that veteran BJP leader LK Advani will be honoured with the highest civilian award in India, the Bharat Ratna
PM Modi wrote on his official X account while tagging two pictures with the 96-year-old Shri LK Advani that “The conferring of the Bharat Ratna on him is a very emotional moment for me.”

The Prime Minister spoke to Mr Advani, a former deputy prime minister, and congratulated him on being conferred with the Bharat Ratna award.
PM Modi wrote about Shri LK Advani on X that he has been the most respected statesmen of their times. He also mentioned that Mr. Advani’s contribution in the development of India has been monumental as started working from the grassroot level and served the nation as Deputy Prime Minister.
In his tweet PM Modi also added that “Shri LK Advani has distinguished himself as our Home Minister and Information & Broadcast minister as well and his parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights.”
Prime Minister Modi said that Mr. Advani’s decades long public service life has been a life of integrity and unwavering commitment towards transparency which sets an exemplary standard in political ethics.
PM Modi has always considered it a privilege to get numerous opportunities to interact with Mr. Advani and learn from him, as he wrote in the tweet.
BJP’s Longest-Serving President LK Advani
LK Advani has been the longest serving president for the Bharatiya Janata Party since its inception in 1980. He played a pivotal role in crafting the rise of BJP in the 1990s when it came to power for the first time under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He served as the deputy PM in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led cabinet from 2002 to 2004.
